SD Cruising Rentals Guide to Renting a Car

Car Rental San Diego Blog

Renting a car can be tricky, especially if you’ve never done it before. Whether you plant to rent through us at SD Cruising Rentals or not, we want to help make the process as smooth as possible for you! That’s why we’ve gathered some of our favorite rental tips to help you know what to expect and how to get the best deal out of your new ride.

Plan Ahead

One of the most important things you can do before any trip is to plan ahead. While you’re thinking about hotels and places you want to visit, don’t forget to factor in what you need out of your car. How many people will be with you? How far are you planning on traveling? Will the roads be easy or a little more treacherous? All of these things should be at the forefront of your mind as you pick out a vehicle from a fleet. Luckily, San Diego Car Rentals has something for every party.

Consider Cost

Paying for the car alone is not the only cost that comes along with renting a car. Don’t forget to factor in a gas budget, as well as insurance and the possibility of other emergency fees. If you only budget for the initial rental cost, you may not be able to go as far as you’re wanting during your trip. Talk to your representative to find out if there are any discounts available based on your trip time, status, and more.

Get to Know Your Vehicle

Once you pick up your car, make sure you spend some time getting to know it and learning how it works. This will not only come in handy on regular drives, but is important in the case of an emergency. Knowing how to pop the hood, where the flashers are and how to turn on the windshield wipers are just as important as knowing how to use the radio. If your car has Bluetooth, be sure to disconnect before you leave, and clear the queue if you don’t want your name in the vehicle.

Terms and Conditions

We know no one likes to read a contract, but doing so can be a big help. Contracts contain important information about costs and what you’re agreeing to be liable for as a rental driver. Reading these is a necessary part of renting, and is important to make sure that you not only know your responsibilities, but to avoid being scammed. Some less than ideal companies may try to overcharge you for small things that can be avoided. At SD Cruising Rentals, we’re dedicated to keeping costs down, though we still recommend you read our contract.

Returning Rules

When it comes time to return your rental car, don’t forget to fill up your gas tank. Many companies will charge a fee if the tank is not full, as well as check for any damage. Remove all items from the vehicle, and remember to check the console, globe box and under the seat for any small items that may have been lost. Arriving on time is also important to ensure you’re not charged for an extra day of rentals. If you are stuck in traffic, call ahead to warn your agent.

SD Cruising Rentals is dedicated to making renting cars easy, and driving fun. If you have any questions about renting, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Take advantage of these tips wherever you go and save time and money while getting to your destination!
