How to Make The Most of Your Time in San Francisco

Car Rentals San Diego

San Francisco is a cultural touchstone. Think of all the iconic symbols this important city has to offer. From the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of hippie lure to Silicon Valley, many important cultural moments have made their home here. That’s one of the reasons it is such a well-loved destination spot for vacationers.

If you’ve finally decided to get a gorgeous rental car and head up to this northern California landmark, you should have an agenda that will let you get the most out of your time here. Our recommendations will let you experience all the best that this city has to offer: from classic tourist spots to local gems. Let’s get started!

1) Take a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Golden Gate Bridge is the image most people think of immediately when they think about San Francisco. Despite its name, this famous bridge is a striking rusty red color that stands out against the hilly backdrop. On many days, you can see it peaking out dramatically from the San Francisco fog. When you’re done taking a photo, walk the length of this nearly 2 mile bridge for bonus points.

2) Relive 1960s counterculture with a tour of Haight-Ashbury.

The Haight-Ashbury neighborhood was a mecca for disillusioned youth of the 1960s trying to live out their hippie dreams. Major bands of the time like the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin made their homes here for a time. Despite the short-lived nature of this period, you can check out the homes of its famous former residents and see some of the art and murals that are relics of another time.

3) Listen to live music at the Fillmore.

This famous music venue has launched the careers of some famous acts, like Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead. Many incredible musical acts have graced this storied stage. Grab a ticket during your trip to enjoy some live music and let loose.

4) Eat a burrito in the Mission District.

The Mission District in San Francisco has some of the most incredible Mexican food in the country. Mission-style burritos are gigantic versions of regular burritos that get as much beans, rice, salsa, and guac into one wrap as they can. Stroll the historic Mission Street for the great bars and shopping that the area is known for.

5) Take a day trip to Muir Woods National Park.

Muir Woods is a popular hiking location that is home to ancient coastal redwoods. These stunning trees are over 200 feet tall and will instantly garner your respect and admiration. With 6 miles of hiking trails and endless combination possibilities, you can spend the day soaking in the wisdom of these Pacific giants. And at less than an hour away from San Francisco’s downtown, you can easily travel here and make it back in time to eat more burritos.

Whether you’re looking to explore on foot or eat the best food California has to offer, there are so many things to add to your San Francisco bucket list. Our advice is to create an agenda ahead of time so you can experience it all. And increase the enjoyment even more by traveling with a luxury vehicle from SD Cruising!
